Their opponents are the Travelers, gifted people who are able to move into alternate realities. The Harlequins are another group of people whose purpose is to protect the Travelers from the Brethren. Maya comes from a Harlequin family, but she is now trying to live a normal life. After her father’s death, though, she finds herself committed to protecting the last two surviving Travelers.

“John Twelve Hawks” is a pseudonym, and the actual identity of the author is unknown. He communicates with fans and the media via the internet. He has written two other books, Spark and Against Authority, both published in 2014. Unlike the others, Against Authority is non-fiction. All of his works are concerned with the dangers of surveillance and government corruption.
